dmc 5 looks great imo but I haven't played it yet. I've played 3, 4 and a few hours of the one that came out before 5. I liked 3 and 4 but the one after was hard to get into

the whole combo system is whack and it is not as open and hard as the old games. Though have yet to play 5 either.
DMC 5 has excellent combat, the graphics looks pretty damn good but the bloody environments...ugh. Expect to see white, gray and reddish environments. At one point, I was wondering whether I was playing an earlier chapter because they all look the bloody same.
DMC 4 was a great game but I disliked having to play through Nero's sections as Dante. Why couldn't they just make different levels?

yeah, the replaying of 4's levels and bosses with dante after beating it with nero was a filler design choice for sure. it may have been used to cut costs
