When we created the new Daily Esports forums, our goal was to provide our readers across the world with a welcoming and accepting place to share their appreciation for the medium. For that to happen, we have to ask each and every one of our community members to chip in and do their part to make that goal a reality.
While we aim to make this an easy-going place to hang out, these kinds of behaviors will not be tolerated:
Trolling
Arguments are a natural and inevitable part of any community. It sucks, but we get it. That being said, there's a big difference between an otherwise civil discussion getting a bit heated and intentionally attempting to provoke or cause drama. Acts such as intentionally inciting other members, serial trolling, or attempting to purposely derail discussions will not be tolerated.
While we do not accept deliberate provocation, we understand the value of free speech and or holding an unpopular or divisive opinion. Please keep in mind that just because someone disagrees with you, it does not mean that they are trolling you. Our members are more than welcome to express themselves as long as it's not at the expense of another person or community.
Harassment
First off, we ask you to remain civil and respectful to other users, regardless of race, gender, sexuality, religion, or background. Even if you're discussing a divisive topic such as a recent balancing patch or Star Wars, we want you to try your best to get along.
Going with this theme of respect, we won't under any circumstance allow the use of slurs or language intended to target or denigrate any group of people.
To get a little serious here: We will under no circumstances tolerate any form of harassment or doxxing within our community.
While some may argue that a truly talented comedian could make a great joke about almost any subject, most people probably shouldn't try. We strongly disallow any posts that make light of sensitive topics such as sexual assault, loss of life, or tragic events.
NSFW Content
Any hardcore explicit content, such as pornography or gore, is strictly forbidden. Violators will be given permanent bans on sight.
Contextually relevant content that is a little more risqué or violent, such as an image featuring revealing character skin in a video game or a Gif from Mortal Kombat is allowed. In all of these instances, please clearly express that the content is NSFW, and hide it behind spoiler tags.
Spoilers
All culturally relevant spoilers (such as match results or the ending of your favorite TV show) MUST be hidden behind spoiler tags with adequate warnings. While we will have dedicated discussion threads for certain topics, we understand that some moments are big enough to warrant their own threads. If you absolutely must leave the spoilers-allowed discussion thread to discuss a major moment, please add "SPOILER" to the front of your thread title and use a vague title that doesn't give away the contents of the post.
For example, if TSM's Doublelift scores a massive pentakill that flips the game in his team's favor, you are permitted to make a separate thread for it, provided you use the correct format:
"DOUBLELIFT WITH AN INSANE PENTA THAT WINS TSM THE GAME"
"SPOILERS: HUGE PLAY AT THE END OF TSM VS TEAM LIQUID"
Spamming / Self-Promotion
Spam sucks. It should go without saying that automated spam posts are going to be nuked from high heaven. Post-padding without adding to discussions is also not allowed. But alongside that, we may treat users who primarily post on our site to promote themselves without any real interaction otherwise as if they're spamming.
If it's contextually appropriate, we'll let you showcase your works. And if you're here mostly to hang out with others on this site and just happen to have something worth showcasing, that's fine. But we recognize the difference between genuine interactions and someone simply here shilling their wares.
Piracy and Ethics
Something that should also be obvious: obey the law. We won't play host to pirated content such as cracked games, ripped movies, or illegal live streams. That includes links to other sites hosting such content as well.
Additionally, if you're under an NDA, please don't post anything that might breach it on our site. Even if you're part of a closed beta that you're really excited about; if there's an NDA in place, we ask you to please respect it.
Medical advice is best left to professionals. For the health and safety of our community, we ask you to please not dispense medical advice to others, even if you have the best of intentions.
Finally, please don't impersonate staff members, or claim to be a representative of the site. Site staff will have their profiles marked with tags that distinguish them as such. If you catch anyone else claiming to be a member of the team, please report them to a moderator or administrator immediately.
In Closing
These terms of service exist so that we can make our forums as welcoming and accepting as possible. We want to create a community where anyone of any background can come and freely be themselves, and to express their ideas.
In short, we ask you to simply be mindful and respectful of each other. The fact that we're all here means we probably have at least a few shared interests, after all.
