I don't normally watch that genre but I like Beck it has a great soundtrack and I've been enjoying Houkago Teibou Nisshi because of its focus on Japanese fishing.

a friend told me Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Come wa Machigatteiru was a pretty good rom-com slice of life anime. He even used the main dude's name as his display name lol. I don't really like rom-com anime since most of it is set in high school and it can get pretty cringe imo

It's my favorite genre so maybe I can help! Do you have a MyAnimeList or something so I know what you've already seen?
Some good ones I watched recently-ish are Netjuu no Susume (good if you enjoy MMO!), Servant x Service (good if you are a public servant lol.), Barakamon (A TOP FAV!), Tamako Market (too cutesy but ...), Honey & Clover (more mature/josei ...), Love Live (kawaii girls ffs), Kumamiko (controversial but loved by me!), Ore Monogatari (not my cup of tea but many like it...), Bokura Minna wa Kawaisou (amazing), Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (amazing too) and for older ones Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu, Haruhi Suzumiya itself and others by KyoAni (ie. CLANNAD and Kanon 2006), Moyashimon, Angel Beats, Genshiken and School Rumble idk...

Also a very funny one... School Days /s

Barakamon was actually really good. I didn't watch the spin-off but i don't think it can surpass the original.

Yeah it's easily in my top 10 but Handa-kun kinda sucked. It's watchable, but... meh.

It's hard for me to take high school anime seriously. Unless they make a high school psychotic vs sociopath action/thriller show, I don't think I'll ever watch highschool shenanigans lol. The cringe drama is too much sometimes

I wonder if they will ever create a Persona game set in college or about adults instead of the high school setting. I guess Japan likes the characters being younger than adults. On a good note, Ghost of Tsushima was received really well in Japan and the director of Yakuza said something along the lines that this is a game where you play as a not so attractive male and have a cast of unattractive people which is like the complete opposite of how Japan does their characters. And he said that it was cool that it was.

Well they probably just want it to be more interesting and relatable perhaps to their audience and of course games and anime are marketed primarily to teens as a whole lol. But that was a shift in marketing I believe - you'll notice that earlier JRPGs (and I am including FFVII arguably the most popular JRPG after Pokémon pretty much?) had younger adults for characters. IIRC series such as FE and Shining also had younger adults. Later series (and I'd say Tales of onwards ok ...) had younger characters and perhaps that became a trend.
Being honest GoT doesn't sound very interesting to me less because of unnatractive characters and more because of ghosts and samurai and piratey island antics and shit, but IA that older protagonists are more interesting in general. In fact anime I watch often have young adults or even mature protagonists (just check my list really.)

that's why i really like the kaiji anime. Everyone was an adult and looked like trolls lmao and there were no female characters that showed up lol except for the ending theme of season 2. You can guess how she looked I've put a pic of her here so you guys can throw up

Well, every forum I'm in seems to have one of those so... here goes nothing! Just talk anything about anime I guess. Does anyone else watch anime? Frequently or occasionally? What's your history with it and what are your favorite series, genres and/or creators? Are you watching anything now? Looking for recommendations?

Aside from gaming I guess anime has always been my main "hobby" so... My favorite series which I have been rewatching on Netflix is Code Geass and my favorite studio has always been KyoAni for better or for worse #PrayForKyoAni So for the last year or so I haven't watched many new series, if any (my friend insists that I gotta watch that isekai where a lady turns into a villain, someone tell me hows it ?) but before that I used to watch a lot of anime and in fact kept an anime blog for years. In the past year I watched some KyoAni series as well as Servant x Service (anime about public service workers - which I am - by the creators of Working!! so it's... interesting, realistically lol) and Netjuu no Susume (weird NEET woman finds love playing MMO - which frankly was my favorite 2017 series).

Since I haven't watched new anime in months now, can anyone recommend me any recent series? Usually I like series such as the aforementioned, but also scifi/fantasy such as Shiki and Psycho-Pass and slice of life such as Barakamon and CLANNAD are some of my favorites.

Has anyone here seen Angel's Egg? It's amazing, it was directed by Mamoru Oshii before he directed Ghostvin the Shell and collaborated with Yoshitaka Amano before he worked on the art for the original Final Fantasy games!

It's on YouTube, it's super worth watching, it's one of the most gorgeous and atmospheric anime films I've ever seen.
