I thought it was Beck, whose last album came out with sheet music so that you and friends could also play the songs and find ways to bring your own style to it.

Yup. But as I brought up with Beck, he was doing something really interesting with one of his albums in about 2013. Instead of releasing just a CD, download, etc. Something that's a one-way kind of music, he actually released the sheet music, so that people can see how it works and just kind of riff on the album the way they want. It was interesting and oddly perfectly timed since I was working on a project regarding copyright and challenges to copyright.
