Personally in my own opinion if sony should give us backward compatibility on ps5 console I prefer just ps3 and ps4 games and maybe continue remakes for top ps1 and ps2 games...that for me settles everything

Not interested in backwards compatibility personally as I think the new games will be much better than any older games

Because the PS3 uses the Cell Processor you're not going to get native backwards compatibility. It's one of the reasons why the PS4 swtiched to the x86 architecture.

Yeah developers hated the processor too lol

cell processor was way to difficult to use according to the devs. Some people speculate that there may be a singularity in the future of consoles since they're becoming more and more like gaming pcs with pretty much the same architecture and one day, every video game "machine" will just be a gaming pc lol

Ideally, PS5, whether natively or through emulation, should be able to run everything. PS1-PS5. And if they build it up properly, they might also be able to improve performance. But I doubt that'll happen.

Doubt it too but personally more for not having backwards compatibility and just focusing on newer games

Except for total backward compatibility on the emulation level, since it isn't hardwired into the hardware, there are a lot of sources to turn to and that they can give guidance to. It's not impossible. But, Sony probably won't do that.

Like Sony stated they believe in generations

RIP the good olden days where PS2 had PS1 compatibility and that was it

(This sounds like sarcasm because I am pulling a joke on myself yes I am an oldbie yes I really do miss that kind of simple backwards compatibility and would take it over graphics any day lol)

You have my sword. And you have my bow. And my axe.

As much as I like the PS3 and PS4, in terms of sheer number of quality games and exclusives, the PS2 is an absolute beast. It's my favorite console of all time. It'll be a pain in the neck to have PS3 BC on the PS5 but at least allow PS1 and PS2 BC

I'd love to be able to put away my PS3, for sure! There's a few games on it that just aren't available on other platforms yet. Like Drakengard 3!

Not sure if it’s a good finacial move for the companies though.
It's complicated, especially since there are a lot of retro game players. With backward compatibility, the life cycle of the older games is renewed, especially if they're included in the digital marketplace on the console stores. Coupled with that, old hardware eventually dies. Sooner or later, there won't be a functioning PS1, PS2, or even a PS3. Would publishers and Sony prefer that people turn to emulator and underground iso coders to keep their older games relevant, or would they prefer that people come to them through the PSN store?

Remakes don't fall under previous generation games again they are regarded as modern day consoles exclusives that aims at making players relive their nostalgia

A true "remake" anyways. lol For example, I love the Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning because I loved the original game but it can barely be called a "remake." It's more an insult that it's referred to as a remaster. But I'm not mad that I can play it on my PS4 at all and I look forward to the new expansion they're making for it that was not in the original game.

Bulletstorm also received a similar "remake" where all they basically did was add 4k resolution to it. That's pretty lame. The games aren't bad at all and I'm glad to be able to play them on the newer consoles but it's just disappointing as a "remake."

Same can be said about the newest Mario 3D All Stars. Very glad to play them but even the N64 game not getting widescreen is pretty terrible. I'm still glad I can play this trilogy on my Switch.
