Hey guys! I have a friend who's looking to stay relevant on Twitch but he doesn't know how, and I'm not the best at it! Are there any best practices that you guys do that helps keep your audience active?

Let me know because we're really trying to help him out! Thanks :D

Two things:

1. help from friends / popular content creators
2. luck. being popular as a streamer and such is like hitting the lottery

The only real thing that can get more attention is doing something incredibly different and something nobody else does and has ever done. That is practically impossible. Good luck.

Maybe some extra things to engage potential viewers, like a poll on what people would like to see next, and maybe some unique angle (like maybe you're doing some sort of retrospective commentary on a classic series while playing through each entry, or doing special themed runs, etc.)

Also, maybe just any ways to include the audience to build a community. Like creating some sort of forum and build a community starting with friends who invite other friends etc and slowly grow from there.

It definitely helps to have a specific focus to really grab people and make it appeal to a target audience. Like maybe the twitch channel is dedicated primarily to horror games or fighters and explores certain games in great detail with some kind of unique perspective (ex how Tekken Tag Tournament influenced the future of the series, or how Phantasy Star Online launched a whole sub genre and how it holds up to modern titles, etc.)

Good luck to your friend!

Networking, luck, and a regular streaming schedule. Coupled with that, have some diversity with content. If you're also including ways for the audience to engage with you, it'll work out better.
