Cross-platform can exist, what do you mean? Bungie has done this successfully and I never had to make an account through anything other than Xbox. When converting to PC, Battle.net allowed me to transfer my character and progress via Microsoft Xbox. So it is extremely possible for cross-platform to be enabled through such an option. One could hope, at least.
